ORIENTATION 2016

Department of International Studies and History conducted an orientation programme for the BA HEP freshers on 7th June, 2016 in Assembly Hall, CHRIST (Deemed to be University). The programme started at 8:30 am and highlighted the Employability assets. The next day, they were taken to 1st year HEP classroom where KSA or Knowledge, Skills and Attitude elaborating on good communication skills, socio-economic, political and historical aspects of a society and linking theory and practical application of theory was explained to the students.
The emphasis was on knowledge. Knowledge does not simply mean general knowledge, core subjects and current affairs but it also means emotional intelligence, hobbies and self-realization which can be achieved by IT, debates, presentations etc.

The session preceded with Employability which has three facets or C’s called competence, conduct and character. Competence involves applying theoretical knowledge into practicals, critical thinking and problem solving capacity. Conduct does not just mean appropriate dressing sense but involves time management, team efforts and being firm, polite and enthusiastic in everything one does. Character is having faith, trust and integrity. Also, its about being honest and fair.

Opportunities and prospects like civil services, research, teaching and publishing, advertising, media is available with the subject. With this, they were also briefed about the new approaches like colonialism and mercantilism, post modernism etc. New career prospects and approaches in Political Science were also brought forth like sociological, economical and psychological approaches. The session wrapped up with the agenda of the semester discussed.

Orientation on usage of Online Database
Department of International Studies and History, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) organized a one-day programme in Knowledge Centre, 6th Floor, Central Block on June 03, 2016 for the students of third year BA HEP and II BA HEP.
Father Jose took the initiative of assisting the students in the right usage of online library: ProQuest, Jstor and magazine section Magzter. It was presided by Mr. Sreekumar Nair,  librarian of Knowledge Centre. Students downloaded the articles and magazines and understood its prime importance to their research studies and academics.
This way, the students were guided to learn about the free online resources that is available in the campus.

Orientation Programme on Mock Parliament
Department of International Studies and  History organized an orientation programme on Mock Parliament in Mini Auditorium, Block I, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) at 12 p.m to 1 p.m on July 20, 2016 for the students of I,II,III HEP and EPS.

Professor Venugopal of the department gave the welcome address. The session was also attended by Professor Vagishwari S.P. Professor Sanjay, faculty of School of Law gave the keynote address which highlighted the key concepts addressed in the Parliament and the happenings in Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, the money bill, the motion of thanks and budgeting, oath taking etc. Students raised questions about the minutes of the meeting and other related ones. Finally, Jugaad Bhatia of III HEP gave the vote of thanks.
